Malone Boatbuilding was founded in 1979 by Bruce Malone. Growing up in Wolfeboro, NH on beautiful Lake Winnipesaukee, Bruce developed a love of the water and boating. After acquiring a degree in mechanical engineering at UNH and working in that field for several years in Boston and San Francisco, he moved to Camden, Maine in 1976 with the idea of building wooden boats. Bruce worked at various boatyards and learned his craft from some of the old time boatbuilders most notably from the Newbert & Wallace Yard in Thomaston.

In 1979, Bruce established a shop in the barn next to his mountainside home, building and selling the classic Rangeley Lake Guide Boat.

By 1984, the business had expanded to include the repair and restoration of larger wooden boats and yachts. With several employees and limited space, new quarters were needed.

In 1989, Bruce built and moved into his present location on Route 90. Although not on the water, the site is only a few miles from the centers of Camden and Rockport and provides easy access to both harbors.
